Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Turkey

Explore cosmetic and reconstructive options with specialist assessment and coordinated support in Istanbul.

Whether your goal concerns the face, breast, body, or restoration after illness or injury, VIPmedi helps you connect with plastic and reconstructive surgery teams at our partner hospitals in Turkey.

Face & noseBreast & bodyReconstructive surgery

Final suitability, procedure choice, and expected outcome require an examination with the treating surgeon. Surgery cannot guarantee a particular appearance or complication-free recovery.

One specialty, different purposes

Cosmetic improvement and reconstructive care

Cosmetic surgery is chosen mainly to change appearance. Reconstructive surgery aims to restore form, function, or tissue after cancer treatment, trauma, burns, congenital differences, or another medical condition.

The two areas can overlap. Breast reduction may address both appearance and physical symptoms; rhinoplasty may involve cosmetic and breathing goals; reconstruction also considers appearance as part of recovery.

Begin with the problem you want to solve rather than selecting a procedure from a package. The relevant surgeon may need to coordinate with another specialty before recommending treatment.

Treatment areas

Plastic surgery options for individual needs

These categories help you understand the scope of care. The selected hospital confirms the appropriate surgeon, exact procedure, and availability for your case.

Facial & Nose Surgery

Options may include rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, facelift or neck lift, brow lift, ear correction, and selected facial reconstruction.

Facial balance, scars, skin quality, breathing, and previous procedures can affect planning. Final swelling may take months to settle.

Discuss facial surgery →

Breast Surgery

Procedures may include breast augmentation, lift, reduction, implant removal or exchange, and surgery for gynaecomastia.

Implants are medical devices, not lifetime products. Scars, sensation, breastfeeding, future imaging, and possible additional surgery need discussion.

Ask about breast surgery →

Body Contouring

Abdominoplasty, arm lift, thigh lift, body lift, and other procedures can remove or reshape excess skin and tissue.

These operations create scars and may require drains, compression garments, and significant recovery. Staged treatment may be appropriate.

Discuss body contouring →

Liposuction & Fat Transfer

Liposuction changes selected contours by removing fat. Fat transfer uses processed fat to add volume in another area, with some of the transferred volume potentially being reabsorbed.

Liposuction is not an obesity treatment or substitute for weight loss. Gluteal fat transfer has particular safety risks and needs separate, detailed consent.

Ask about contouring options →

Post-Weight-Loss Contouring

After substantial weight loss, surgery may address excess skin of the abdomen, chest, arms, thighs, back, or other areas.

Weight stability, nutrition, anaemia, previous bariatric surgery, and the number of areas involved affect readiness and whether treatment is staged.

Request a post-weight-loss assessment →

Reconstructive Surgery

Reconstructive care may address tissue loss or deformity following cancer surgery, trauma, burns, congenital differences, chronic wounds, or previous operations.

Care can involve grafts, local tissue, flaps, microsurgery, implants, or collaboration with other specialties. More than one stage may be needed.

Enquire about reconstruction →

Considering revision surgery? Previous operation reports, implant details, imaging, and photographs may help the specialist understand the existing anatomy and what can realistically be improved.

Compare the planning priorities

Different procedures, different decisions

The operation should be defined precisely. Broad labels such as “body makeover” do not explain the actual surgery or its risks.

ApproachWhat it may changeA key planning question
RhinoplastyBone, cartilage, and soft tissue of the nose. Are the goals cosmetic, functional, or both—and is another specialist assessment needed?
Breast implantsBreast volume and shape using a medical device.Which exact device is proposed, and what monitoring or future surgery might it require?
Breast lift or reductionSkin, breast tissue, position, and proportions. What scars, sensation changes, and effects on future breastfeeding should be considered?
AbdominoplastyExcess abdominal skin and, when appropriate, the abdominal wall. How do the scar, recovery, clot risk, and future pregnancy or weight changes affect the plan?

Planning & safety

Meet the surgeon before making the decision

Your consultation should be with the surgeon responsible for the operation—not only a sales or coordination team. Discuss the exact procedure, likely scars, alternatives, recovery, and what would happen if you chose not to proceed.

Ask how the surgeon’s specialist qualifications and professional registration can be verified in Turkey, where the operation will take place, who provides anaesthesia, and what level of postoperative care the facility can provide.

Consent should happen after the surgeon has assessed you and answered your questions. A deposit, travel booking, or appointment should not remove your opportunity to reconsider.

Should several procedures be combined?

Combining operations can affect procedure time, blood loss, mobility, wound burden, and recovery. The total risk depends on the exact combination and your health—not on a package name such as “full-body transformation” or “mommy makeover.”

Your surgeon and anaesthesia team should decide whether a combination is appropriate. Staging procedures may be recommended. Convenience, a single trip, or a lower package price should not override the clinical risk assessment.

Gluteal fat grafting requires particular caution. Commonly called a BBL, this procedure carries a recognised risk of fat embolism and death. Ask the surgeon to explain the technique, current safety measures, facility, emergency plan, alternatives, and personal risk before considering treatment.
If an implant or device is proposed

Know exactly what will be placed in your body

For breast augmentation or reconstruction, ask for the manufacturer, model, fill, surface, size, and shape of the proposed implant. Request the patient information supplied for that device and retain the device card and operation record after surgery.

Breast implants are not lifetime devices. Complications can include capsular contracture, rupture or deflation, pain, changes in sensation, asymmetry, infection, and the need for removal or replacement. Rare implant-associated cancers and other reported conditions should be part of informed discussion.

Follow-up and imaging depend on the device, symptoms, local guidance, and manufacturer information. Regulatory requirements cited by sources from other countries do not replace the rules applicable in Turkey.

Your visit to Istanbul

A clear plan, from enquiry to follow-up

  1. Contact VIPmedi

Use our Contact Us page to explain the area you want to address, any previous surgery, and your preferred travel period. We can discuss the appropriate hospital enquiry.

  2. Prepare for clinical review

The hospital may request relevant history, reports, or photographs. Ask how these should be shared securely. Initial review helps planning but does not replace an examination.

  3. Confirm the proposed visit

Review the hospital, surgeon, appointments, estimate, and any agreed travel services. Clarify the policy if assessment changes the procedure or shows that surgery is unsuitable.

  4. Meet the surgeon and decide

Discuss the plan, alternatives, scars, risks, recovery, and expected outcome. Proceed only after you understand the proposal and give informed consent.

  5. Recover and continue care

Complete the recommended hospital stay and early reviews. Obtain your operation record, discharge summary, implant details if relevant, and follow-up instructions before travelling home.

Support around your care

How VIPmedi helps you plan

Hospital coordination

A contact point for enquiries, appointment planning, and communication with the selected hospital. The treating surgeon makes the clinical decisions.

Clear arrangements

Discuss language support, accommodation, and transfers before booking. Any agreed services, charges, and exclusions should be documented.

Follow-up communication

We help coordinate questions about the hospital’s instructions. Remote communication supports continuity but cannot replace examinations or urgent local care.

Costs & planning

Know what your surgical quote covers

Plastic and reconstructive surgery costs in Turkey vary with the operation, surgeon, hospital, anaesthesia, implants or devices, investigations, medical complexity, and required stay.

Contact VIPmedi for an individual enquiry. The recommended procedure and estimate may change after examination. Reconstructive treatment may also require input from another specialty or more than one stage.

Recovery & follow-up

Plan for healing, not only the operation

Recovery varies greatly between a limited facial procedure, major body contouring, and complex reconstruction. Follow the treating team’s instructions rather than a generic online timetable.

Before discharge

Understand the plan

Review wound care, drains, garments, medicines, movement, warning signs, emergency contacts, and the first follow-up appointment.

Early recovery

Protect healing tissues

Pain, swelling, bruising, tightness, and reduced mobility may occur. Take prescribed care and ask for help with daily activities.

Following weeks

Increase activity gradually

Attend wound reviews and follow individual advice about lifting, work, driving, compression garments, exercise, bathing, and sleeping position.

Following months

Allow the result to mature

Swelling and scars continue to change. Final assessment may take months or longer, depending on the procedure and healing.

This sequence is general and contains no personal clearance dates. Your surgeon determines your recovery schedule.

Arrange follow-up near home before travelling

Agree who can examine you, manage dressings or drains if required, and arrange tests after you return. Keep your operation report, discharge summary, medicine list, implant or device details, and the hospital’s contact instructions.

A video review can help communication but cannot assess every wound, infection, blood clot, fluid collection, implant problem, or healing concern.

Make an informed decision

Understand the risks before you consent

Possible complications include bleeding, infection, anaesthetic problems, blood clots, fluid collections, delayed healing, wound separation, tissue loss, unfavourable scars, numbness or altered sensation, asymmetry, and dissatisfaction with appearance.

Procedure-specific risks also apply. Implants can have device-related complications; fat transfer can cause fat necrosis or embolism; reconstruction can fail partly or completely. Additional procedures, hospital care, or long-term treatment may be needed.

Seek urgent medical help after surgery for: chest pain, difficulty breathing, fainting, coughing blood, a painful swollen leg, uncontrolled bleeding, rapidly increasing swelling, high fever, confusion, a wound opening, darkening skin, pus, or severe or worsening pain. Do not wait for an email or contact-form reply.
Your questions answered

Frequently asked questions

How do I start planning surgery with VIPmedi?

Use our Contact Us page to explain what you would like help with, previous procedures, and your preferred travel period. We can discuss the appropriate hospital enquiry and information needed for an initial review.

Can a surgeon confirm my operation from photographs?

Photographs can assist initial planning but cannot fully show tissue quality, scars, muscle or implant position, general health, or anaesthetic risk. Final suitability, consent, and the operative plan require proper clinical assessment.

What is the difference between cosmetic and reconstructive surgery?

Cosmetic surgery mainly changes appearance by choice. Reconstructive surgery aims to restore form or function after illness, injury, treatment, or a congenital difference. The goals can overlap, and both require individual surgical planning.

How should I choose the treating surgeon?

Verify specialist qualifications and registration, experience with the exact procedure, hospital privileges, and who provides follow-up. Meet the responsible surgeon before deciding. Ask about common complications, personal risk, alternatives, and what happens if something goes wrong.

Can several plastic surgery procedures be performed together?

Sometimes, but not every combination is appropriate. Total operating time, blood-clot risk, wound burden, blood loss, mobility, and your health affect the decision. The surgeon and anaesthesia team may recommend fewer procedures or staged treatment.

How long should I stay in Turkey, and when can I fly?

The answer depends on the operation, recovery, and required reviews. Ask for a proposed schedule but keep travel flexible. Do not treat discharge as flight clearance; the surgeon should assess whether you are fit to travel.

Will I have visible scars?

Yes. Every surgical incision creates a scar, although its position and eventual appearance vary. Ask where scars will be, how long they may remain red or firm, and which factors increase the risk of widened, raised, or darkened scars.

Can the surgeon guarantee the result shown in a photograph?

No. Reference images can help discuss preferences, but anatomy, tissue quality, healing, and previous surgery differ. Ask the surgeon to explain which aspects may be achievable and which limitations are likely to remain.

Do breast implants last for life?

No breast implant should be treated as a lifetime device. Some patients need further surgery for rupture, capsular contracture, pain, position changes, preference, or another concern. Keep the device details and follow the recommended monitoring plan.

Why does a BBL need extra safety discussion?

Gluteal fat grafting carries a recognised risk of fat entering the bloodstream and causing a potentially fatal embolism. Ask about the surgeon’s experience, technique, safety measures, facility, emergency plan, alternatives, and the recovery requirements.

What if I smoke, vape, or use nicotine?

Tell the surgeon honestly. Nicotine can impair circulation and wound healing and may change whether or when surgery is offered. Follow the clinical team’s instructions about stopping and restarting; do not substitute another nicotine product without discussing it.

Can a previous plastic surgery result be revised?

Revision may be possible, but scar tissue, changed anatomy, implants, reduced tissue options, and the original complication can make it more complex. Provide previous operation records and device information where available. Improvement—not perfection—is the realistic aim.

What is included in a plastic surgery package?

Inclusions vary. Confirm the surgeon, hospital, anaesthesia, implant or device, tests, garments, medicines, nights, follow-up, and travel services in writing. Contact VIPmedi to request an individual estimate and its exclusions.

Who helps if I develop a complication at home?

Agree on local follow-up before travelling and obtain the hospital’s instructions and records. VIPmedi can help coordinate communication, but urgent symptoms require immediate assessment where you are. Do not delay emergency care while waiting for a reply from abroad.
