Individual hairline planningDonor-area assessmentRecovery & follow-up

Suitability and graft numbers require clinical assessment. A transplant redistributes existing hair; it does not create new donor follicles or stop all future hair loss.

Diagnosis before a procedure

Is a hair transplant right for you?

Hair transplantation may help selected adults with established pattern hair loss and a suitable donor area. It is not the answer to every type of thinning or shedding.

Sudden hair loss, scalp inflammation, patchy loss, or widespread thinning may need dermatological assessment first. Blood tests or other investigations are sometimes appropriate. Treating the cause, monitoring the pattern, or using medical care may be a better first step.

Tell the team about previous transplants, scalp treatments, medicines, and health conditions. An initial photograph review can help with planning but cannot replace a proper examination.

Your treatment options

Hair restoration for different needs

Explore the terms and treatment areas below. The selected hospital confirms the appropriate technique, team, and availability for your case.

FUE Hair Transplant

Follicular unit excision, commonly called extraction, removes individual follicular units from the donor area. The grafts are then placed into the areas being restored.

FUE avoids a single strip scar but leaves small extraction scars. Harvesting must be planned to limit visible donor thinning.

DHI Hair Implantation

Direct hair implantation is a term commonly used for placing grafts with an implanter device. The grafts are often harvested using FUE.

DHI describes implantation, not a separate donor-harvesting method. Ask how the team will remove and place your grafts, and why that approach fits your case.

Ask about DHI implantation →

Sapphire FUE

This label generally describes FUE harvesting followed by recipient-site preparation using a sapphire blade. It refers to a tool used during the procedure.

The blade material alone cannot guarantee better growth, greater density, or faster healing. Planning, graft handling, and clinical skill remain important.

Discuss Sapphire FUE →

Hair Transplant for Women

Selected women with a suitable diagnosis and donor area may be candidates for restoration of thinning areas or the hairline. The pattern of loss needs careful assessment.

Diffuse thinning, temporary shedding, and active scalp disease may require another approach. Keeping hair longer during treatment is case-dependent.

Ask about women’s hair restoration →

Curly & Afro-Textured Hair

Curved follicles and individual hair characteristics can affect extraction and placement. The approach should be adapted to the person’s hair and scalp.

Ask about the team’s experience with comparable hair textures and how it assesses donor hair, scarring risk, and graft handling.

Discuss your hair type →

Beard & Eyebrow Transplants

Selected patients may consider restoration of beard coverage or eyebrow density. Facial hair needs careful attention to shape, direction, angle, and the cause of any hair loss.

These are distinct procedures with their own assessment and aftercare. Eyebrows restored with scalp hair may need regular trimming.

Ask about facial hair restoration →

Previous transplant or scar-related hair loss? Ask about a specialist review. Repair may be limited by the remaining donor hair and the condition of the scalp.

Understand the terminology

FUE, DHI, Sapphire, and FUT: what do they mean?

Some names describe how grafts are collected; others describe how they are implanted. They are not four directly equivalent procedures.

TermWhat it describesWhat to clarify
FUEIndividual follicular-unit removal from the donor area. How much donor hair can reasonably be harvested and how grafts will be placed.
DHIAn implantation approach, commonly using an implanter. The harvesting method, the implantation process, and who performs each stage.
Sapphire FUEFUE with a sapphire blade used to create recipient sites. Why that tool is proposed and what benefit is realistic for your case.
FUT / strip surgeryA strip of donor scalp is removed and divided into grafts. The linear donor scar, suitability, and availability; it is not offered by every team.

On a small screen, scroll the table sideways. Technique labels do not establish suitability or guarantee an outcome.

Ask who will perform your procedure

Confirm the responsible doctor’s identity and qualifications, who performs the donor incisions, recipient-site creation, implantation, and anaesthesia, and how the team is supervised. A hospital name does not replace checking the actual team and its clinical responsibilities.

Donor hair is a limited resource

Plan the coverage, not just the graft count

A graft is a small unit of tissue containing one or more hair follicles. Graft counts and individual hair counts are different, so make sure any estimate explains what is being counted.

The appropriate number depends on the area being treated, donor quality, hair characteristics, and likely future loss. A very low hairline or extensive crown coverage may use donor hair that could be needed later.

Ask for a clear explanation of the proposed design, priorities, and limitations. A staged approach or more modest coverage may be preferable to removing too much donor hair in one visit.

Your visit to Istanbul

A clear plan, from enquiry to follow-up

  1. Contact VIPmedi

Tell us your main concern, whether you have had treatment before, and your preferred travel period. We can discuss the appropriate hospital enquiry and next steps.

  2. Prepare for assessment

The clinical team may request photographs and relevant history for an initial review. Ask how these should be shared. Any preliminary graft estimate remains subject to examination.

  3. Confirm the proposed visit

Review the facility, responsible doctor, appointments, written estimate, and any agreed travel arrangements. Clarify the policy if the final assessment changes the plan.

  4. Attend consultation and decide

Discuss the donor assessment, hairline design, graft plan, technique, anaesthesia, alternatives, and risks before giving consent. An appointment does not oblige you to undergo surgery.

  5. Complete treatment and reviews

If you proceed, follow the clinic’s instructions and attend early checks. Obtain your treatment record, aftercare guidance, and a plan for progress reviews after you return home.

Support around your care

How VIPmedi helps you plan

Hospital coordination

A contact point for enquiries, appointment planning, and communication with the selected facility. Tell us if you have a preferred partner hospital.

Clear arrangements

Discuss language support, accommodation, and transfers before booking. Any agreed services and charges should be listed in your written arrangements.

Follow-up communication

We help coordinate questions about the treating team’s instructions. Remote reviews can support follow-up, but some concerns need an examination where you are.

Costs & planning

Understand your hair transplant quote

Hair transplant costs in Turkey vary with the facility, treating team, extent of treatment, graft plan, technique, and complexity. Repair work, facial hair restoration, or more than one session may require a different estimate.

Ask what the quote actually covers and how it changes if fewer grafts can be safely harvested or another approach is recommended. A headline graft number or package price does not show the quality of the clinical plan.

Recovery & results

Early healing is followed by gradual hair growth

Healing and growth do not happen on the same schedule. Your treating team should explain what to expect and when to send progress photographs or attend a review.

First days

Protect the treated areas

Swelling, tenderness, and scabbing can occur. Follow instructions for washing, sleeping, and avoiding friction or pressure on the grafts.

First weeks

Shedding may occur

Transplanted hair shafts often shed before new growth appears. This does not by itself mean the transplant has failed.

Around 4 months onwards

Growth becomes visible

New growth may begin to show, with uneven progress between areas. Early photographs cannot establish the final density.

Around 10–18 months

Assess the fuller result

Growth and appearance continue to mature. The review timeframe varies by patient and treatment area; results are not guaranteed.

This is a general guide, not a promised schedule. Follow your clinician’s individual recovery plan.

Keep caring for the hair around the transplant

Existing hair can continue to thin after surgery. A clinician may recommend medical treatment to help manage ongoing loss. Ask about the benefits, side effects, and duration before starting anything.

Follow the clinic’s advice on washing, exercise, hats or helmets, sun exposure, swimming, and hair products. Do not pick scabs or change prescribed care without advice.

Make an informed decision

Understand the risks and realistic limits

Hair transplantation is surgery. Risks include bleeding, infection, reactions to anaesthetic, scarring, poor graft growth, and an appearance that does not meet expectations.

Removing too many grafts can leave the donor area visibly thin. Hair loss may continue around transplanted areas, and further care or another procedure may be considered. Corrective surgery is not always possible.

After treatment: worsening pain, spreading redness, fever, pus, or bleeding that does not stop needs prompt medical assessment. Seek emergency care for breathing difficulty or a severe allergic reaction. Do not wait for an email or contact-form reply.

Frequently asked questions

How do I start planning a hair transplant with VIPmedi?

Use our Contact Us page to describe your main concern, previous treatment, and preferred travel period. We can discuss the relevant hospital enquiry and what information the clinical team may need.

Can photographs confirm that I am suitable?

Photographs can help with an initial review, but they cannot fully establish the diagnosis, donor capacity, or scalp condition. The final recommendation requires clinical assessment. A preliminary graft estimate or proposed date is not a guarantee that surgery will go ahead.

Is DHI better than FUE?

They describe different stages. FUE concerns graft harvesting, while DHI commonly refers to implantation with an implanter. A procedure may use both. Ask the doctor to explain the complete process and why it suits your hair and treatment area.

How many grafts will I need?

The number depends on your donor hair, the areas being restored, the proposed design, and future needs. There is no reliable universal number for a hairline or crown. Ask for an assessed range and confirm that the estimate counts grafts rather than individual hairs.

Will I need to shave my head?

Shaving requirements vary with the technique, treatment area, hair length, and team. Partial or unshaven approaches may be possible in selected cases, but DHI does not automatically mean no shaving. Confirm exactly which areas would be trimmed before booking.

Is the procedure painful?

Hair transplantation is usually performed with local anaesthetic, sometimes with sedation. Anaesthetic injections and the recovery period can involve discomfort. Ask how pain is managed and what symptoms should prompt a call or examination; no technique can promise a painless experience.

Can women have a hair transplant?

Some women are suitable candidates, but identifying the cause of thinning is essential. Diffuse donor thinning, temporary shedding, or active scalp disease can change the recommendation. The team may advise medical treatment, further investigation, or observation before surgery.

Can curly or Afro-textured hair be transplanted?

It may be suitable after assessment. Follicle curvature, donor characteristics, and scalp health affect planning. Ask whether the team has experience with hair like yours and request an explanation of the harvesting approach and its limitations.

When will I see the result?

Transplanted hair often sheds in the early weeks. New growth may start to become visible from around four months, with a fuller result assessed over approximately 10–18 months. These are broad expectations, not deadlines; individual growth and review schedules vary.

Is a hair transplant permanent?

Transplanted hair can last for many years, but a transplant does not stop all hair loss. Some grafts may not grow, and surrounding hair can continue to thin. Discuss long-term planning and whether medical treatment may help maintain the overall appearance.

How long should I stay in Turkey?

Ask the hospital for a schedule that includes the examination, procedure, and early aftercare. The appropriate stay depends on your treatment and recovery. Confirm when you can travel and leave room for a longer stay if the team recommends it.

Will I need hair-loss medicines afterwards?

A clinician may recommend treatment for hair that is still thinning. Suitability, side effects, and duration differ between medicines and patients. Ask what is intended to support existing hair, what is optional, and what any additional treatment would cost.

Can an earlier transplant be repaired?

A specialist may be able to assess an unnatural hairline, poor growth, or donor concerns, but correction has limits. Previous surgery and the remaining donor supply affect what is possible. Bring available operation records and ask for realistic priorities before considering another procedure.

How much does a hair transplant in Turkey cost?

There is no single price for every case. The facility, clinical team, treatment area, graft plan, and complexity all affect the estimate. Contact VIPmedi for an individual enquiry and a written explanation of inclusions, exclusions, and follow-up.
