Understand the harvesting stage
What “FUE” actually describes
During FUE, small punches are used to score around individual follicular units in the donor area. The units are then removed, inspected, counted, protected, and prepared for implantation.
Punches may be manual or motorised, sharp or blunt, and selected in different sizes and designs. The appropriate approach depends on hair calibre, curl, skin characteristics, scarring, donor anatomy, and the clinician’s technique.
FUE does not mean “scar-free.” It replaces a single linear donor scar with many small extraction sites. Their visibility depends on punch size, healing, hair length, skin and hair contrast, extraction distribution, and total donor use.
